SeedAI is seeking a Senior Science Policy Fellow for a full-time, six-month contract. SeedAI works to promote national AI readiness, bringing together policymakers, scientists, academics, community partners, and the private sector.
The Fellow's primary responsibility will be to lead a funded project to examine where the creation or improvement of datasets could unlock meaningful scientific progress and what it would take to move a promising opportunity toward implementation.
This Fellow will lead research, stakeholder engagement, strategy, and execution; work with scientists, AI researchers, funders, policymakers, and data-infrastructure experts; and turn complex input into fundable opportunities.
The Fellow will support related efforts, such as the Accelerate Science Now coalition, policy thought leadership, and help engagement across the science-acceleration and AI-for-science ecosystem.
Core Responsibilities
Lead SeedAI's AI-for-science dataset project, including overall project management, research direction, stakeholder engagement, and delivery of final work products.
Develop and synthesize research on scientific data needs, opportunities, and constraints, translating technical and policy perspectives into clear recommendations.
Convene and collaborate with experts and partners across science, government, philanthropy, academia, and industry.
Support SeedAI's broader science policy work, including coalition engagement, policy writing, public-facing materials, and participation in relevant meetings and events.
Preferred Experience
Scientific training or professional experience as a scientist, engineer, or computational researcher, or substantial experience working closely with scientists.
Experience with large-scale scientific datasets or data infrastructure, including issues such as data curation, validation, provenance, interoperability, access, or governance.
Experience with science funding, research program design, government agencies, or philanthropic funders.
Qualifications
Significant experience at the intersection of AI for science and science policy, including strong knowledge of the current landscape and debate.
Demonstrated ability to lead complex, interdisciplinary projects from an open-ended question to high-quality outputs on a defined timeline.
Excellent research, synthesis, writing, and editing skills.
Ability to understand scientific and technical material and communicate it clearly to policy, funding, and general audiences.
Strong project management, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
Sound judgment and the ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment.
Contract Terms
Term: Full-time, six-month contract, with the possibility of renewal or extension by mutual agreement.
Location: Flexible; remote work is welcome. Periodic travel to Washington, DC is expected.
Compensation: $50,000-$55,000 for the six-month contract, based on experience. This is equivalent to an annualized rate of $100,000-$110,000.
