SeedAI, a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization founded to help develop artificial intelligence (AI) resources for communities nationwide, today announced the launch of its mission to bring together public and private partners in order to develop model AI initiatives, drive policy and facilitate investment, with a special focus on underserved communities.

If we work together to seize this opportunity, we can build a vibrant, inclusive economy fueled by revolutionary AI technologies that will empower us to improve our lives in ways we can’t even imagine yet.

To unveil the details of its agenda as well as the findings of its recently commissioned public opinion survey conducted by Morning Consult, SeedAI will host its inaugural Policy Summit at the CTA Innovation House in Washington, D.C. on Friday, October 22, with speakers from across government, private enterprise and academia. They include:

  • Dr. Lynne Parker, Director, National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Office; Assistant Director of Artificial Intelligence, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP)

  • Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (D-CA)

  • Congresswoman Robin Kelly (D-IL)

  • Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX)

  • Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-CA)

  • Jack Clark, Co-Founder, Anthropic; Co-Chair, Stanford AI Index; Co-Chair of the OECD working group on AI and Computer

  • Professor Anima Anandkumar, Bren Professor, California Institute of Technology; Director of ML Research, NVIDIA

  • Elham Tabassi, Chief of Staff, Information Technology Lab, NIST

Approximately two-thirds of adults definitely believe private companies as well as state and federal governments should work to ensure that AI is safe and trustworthy.

“Right now, we have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to usher in a new era of American technology leadership grounded in the strength of our communities and committed to equal opportunity and trust,” said SeedAI President Austin Carson. “If we work together to seize this opportunity, we can build a vibrant, inclusive economy fueled by revolutionary AI technologies that will empower us to improve our lives in ways we can’t even imagine yet.”

According to the poll, broad support exists among the U.S. public for SeedAI’s goals. Key findings include:

  • Adults across the ideological spectrum (liberal: 59%, moderate: 51%, conservative: 49%) say they would be more likely to approve of their representatives in Congress if they were to commit to investing in AI technology development and job training in their communities.

  • Three-quarters of Millennial (74%) and GenX (74%) adults say they would be interested in learning about AI’s current and future uses if there were opportunities to do so in their local community. 61% of Baby Boomers also agree.

  • Nearly half of adults say that if the U.S. were to invest in developing AI technology (46%), training workers for AI jobs (50%) or educating students on how to use AI technology (50%), they would be less worried about the potential negative consequences of greater AI adoption in everyday life.

  • Approximately two-thirds of adults definitely believe private companies as well as state and federal governments should work to ensure that AI is safe and trustworthy.

“The majority of Americans believe the U.S. should already be making significant AI investments in education, job training and technology development,” said Carson. “SeedAI’s mission is to make these investments happen in communities across the country, and facilitate models that practically address the concerns shared by Americans from all walks of life.”
